2. Exploring stress (the unpleasant) 137
Some mention of the nature and effects of chronic stress on the body from the case study offers a transition into this next activity. Using volunteers who start by tossing a tennis ball into the air and catching it, repeating this over and other, the teacher then directs the volunteers to add additional movements, such as making large circles in the air with their other arm. Other movements are added one by one. The demonstration is a clear reflection of the effects of trying to handle too many things all at one time and how hard it is to sustain this effort while maintaining good performance.
Using the direction and questions in the manual, teachers can process this activity and highlight the effects of chronic stress.
