R Theme 90

Before we continue our review of program themes, let’s take a moment to check in with your experience right now. In this moment, putting down what you might be holding, Becoming aware of the body, noticing the points of contact that the body makes with the chair, the contact of the feet with the floor, the contact of hands on a lap or on a desk. Then moving attention to the breath in the body, wherever that’s most noticeable to you, perhaps at the nostrils, the chest or the abdomen. Let your attention rest on the breath in the body, feeling its movement as it comes and goes, attending to its rhythm ….Perhaps you also notice you get caught up in thoughts and your attention gets pulled away from its focus on the breath. Just noting this as well, and without giving the thoughts too much attention and without judgement because that’s simply what the mind does, gently but firmly guiding your attention back to the breath to follow a few more breaths.

Now setting an intention to be as present as possible, bringing your attention back to this lesson as we move to the R theme.
R stands for Reflections or Thoughts. The key message of the next theme is “Thoughts are just thoughts; You don’t need to believe everything you think.”
Let’s explore the background information for this lesson on thoughts (reflections) and talk a bit more about why this message is so important for adolescents and young adults.
