This illustrates the well-known law describing the relationship between stress and performance. Too little stress or energy is correlated with poor performance because it leads to being zoned out and not alert. At the other extreme, too much stress is agitating and makes people anxious, hurting their ability to perform well. The sweet spot for optimal performance is one characterized by calm and focused alertness, qualities we build in mindfulness practice.
