Announcing a Live Virtual 3-day Training in Learning to BREATHE
This three-day live virtual training is intended to introduce clinicians and teachers to Learning to BREATHE (L2B). Day 1 provides the Foundation Workshop, which includes a broad introduction to the theory and research behind mindfulness-based interventions, the specifics of L2B, and opportunities to practice mindfulness. Days 2 and 3 offer the opportunity to participate in L2B lessons as a student and to practice teaching the lessons in small groups. Since those who teach mindfulness must experience mindfulness themselves, the workshop includes periods of mindfulness practice for participants. Some prior experience with mindfulness is highly recommended and might be obtained through online or in-person mindfulness classes (e.g. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction; MBSR).
Objectives:
As a result of this interactive workshop, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the research related to mindfulness-based treatments as it applies to emotion regulation, stress, and wellbeing.
- Utilize an empirically-supported mindfulness program for adolescents and adults called Learning to BREATHE (see www.learning2breathe.org)
- Demonstrate skills for presenting and teaching mindfulness to adolescents and adults in school-based or clinical settings.
- Practice mindfulness through guided periods throughout the program.
-
Become familiar with resources to draw upon in order to use mindfulness effectively in various settings.
Please note that the L2B training process restricts any participant from using workshop materials to train other facilitators in the curriculum, to use the materials outside of personal use, or to claim “certification” as L2B trainers. Only certified trainers may use this designation, so please check out the website for more information on the training sequence.
Dates and Times:
Day 1 – Friday, October 2– 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (CT)
Day 2 – Thursday, October 8 – 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (CT)
Day 3 – Friday, October 9 – 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (CT)
One hour is allotted for lunch each day. Please make sure you can attend all three days as this is a highly experiential training.
